Recreation That Pays It Forward — New Land Stewardship Partnership Invests in Western Working Lands 

Western Landowners Alliance and Infinite Outdoors Partner to Support Working Lands Through Recreation 

DENVER – For generations, recreation has helped sustain working ranches across the West. Hunting, fishing, wildlife watching, and other outdoor experiences provide an important source of income for many landowners while connecting people to the landscapes that produce our food, support wildlife, and sustain rural communities. 

Western Landowners Alliance (WLA) in partnership with land access and conservation platform Infinite Outdoors are building on that tradition through a new partnership that gives landowners using Infinite Outdoors’ habitat-centric, landowner-built recreation management platform an easy way to support private lands stewardship West-wide. 

As part of the partnership, Infinite Outdoors is committed to donating an amount equivalent to 5% of booking fees generated through WLA-referred properties to Western Landowners Alliance. These unrestricted funds will support WLA’s work to sustain working lands, connected landscapes, and native species across the West. 

The collaboration also includes educational webinars, landowner resources, case studies, and outreach focused on recreation management, habitat stewardship, and new opportunities for landowners interested in incorporating recreation into their operations.

We all depend on it, people and critters alike, for our survival and our wellbeing,” said Lesli Allison, CEO of Western Landowners Alliance. “As landowners, we’re always looking for practical ways to keep these landscapes healthy and productive. Recreation has long been part of many western operations, and this partnership gives landowners another tool for strengthening their businesses while continuing to steward the land.” 

Built by lifelong farmers and ranchers to solve issues landowners deal with every day when leasing out their land, Infinite Outdoors helps landowners incorporate recreation into their existing operations without taking on the day-to-day administrative work. Landowners decide when and where recreation is appropriate, what activities to offer, how many guests to host, and the rules for access. The platform then manages bookings, payments, scheduling, guest communication, mapping, and access logistics, allowing recreation to fit around agricultural operations rather than compete with them. 

“Every landowner and every property is different, which is why Infinite Outdoors is not a one-size-fits-all leasing platform,” said Sam Seeton, co-founder and CEO of Infinite Outdoors. “We built Infinite to solve issues we dealt with ourselves as landowners, creating a flexible management tool that a family farm, working ranch, or large conservation property can shape around its own goals. Landowners decide where, when, and how access occurs, while our technology and team handle the administrative work required to manage it responsibly.” 

Private lands make up some of the West’s most important wildlife habitat, but they also face increasing economic pressure. For many producers, diversified income can help keep ranches intact, support habitat improvements, and reduce pressure to subdivide or convert working lands.  

For Wyoming rancher Bret Wernsman of Yoke 7 Ranch along the North Platte River, the platform provided a way to open his ranch to carefully managed recreation without adding another full-time job to an already busy operation. By handling the logistics behind reservations and visitor management, Infinite Outdoors has allowed him to add another revenue source while maintaining oversight of how recreation fits into the ranch. 

“We basically went from zero to what we’re doing now, and it’s been flawless,” Wernsman said. 

Seeton said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to expanding opportunities for both landowners and the public while protecting the resources that make those opportunities possible. “Our goal is not to take access that already exists and put a price on it,” he said. “It is to help willing landowners open new places to the public in a way that respects their property, supports their livelihoods, and protects the resources they steward. If landowners are taken care of, more gates can open and stay open.” 

Allison noted that helping people experience working lands builds broader support for conservation. “ It opens up all kinds of possibilities. It brings dollars and jobs to rural communities. It bridges the urban-rural divide. It connects people to their food and to natural resources, and most importantly of all, it helps us conserve the habitat.”
