Public Access Policy Statement

Public access to and through private land, especially for recreation activities such as hunting, angling and hiking is a challenging topic in the West, with its checkerboard of land ownership, abundant wildlife, outdoor recreation legacy and growth and history of conflict between private, state and federal property interests.

Successful solutions will start with mutual respect, a desire to achieve win-win outcomes and the recognition that the conservation of land, wildlife and natural resources must be the first priority. The Western Landowners Alliance approaches each access challenge individually, according to the principles laid out in this short document.
