High Country Rancher Days
August 28 @ 8:00 am - August 29 @ 5:00 pm MDT
Please join us for High Country Rancher Days, happening this August 28th and 29th at La Dolce Vita Ranch and Badger Creek Ranch located near Guffey and Canon City, CO (8,000 to 10,000 ft elevation). Funding for the event comes from Western SARE and Rangeland Living Laboratory with a small registration fee of $50 to cover meals.
There are unique challenges when it comes to ranching in the High Country. For those seeking to deepen their knowledge of ranching amidst these unique circumstances, or who would like to build a support network and improve their ranch’s resiliency in the face of climate uncertainty, this event is for you! Participants will have the opportunity to learn from experienced local ranchers, topic experts such as CSU Extension Veterinarian, Kathy Whitman, and NRCS Agent, Dixie Crowe, as well as interns and apprentices from the host ranches. Key topics include the intersection of grazing planning, soil health, drought, land monitoring, and livestock health (mineral programs for regional soils/plants); local topics (trout conservation programs and/or range law and addressing conflict, and hosting interns and apprentices.
This event will offer space for socializing and networking for ranchers as well as informative and relevant ranch tours led by the host ranchers (one of which is an instructor for CSU’s IN-RICHES soil health program).
You can register directly through this Google Form link (https://forms.gle/ s4aVc5kw26s3abHP7) or also visit the Park County CSU Extension events page (https://extension.colostate. edu/park/events), which lists all the lodging options and also takes you to the registration link.
