Working Lands in Action: A Day at Defrees Ranch
July 30 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm MDT
Join Country Natural Beef and Western Landowners Alliance for a summer ranch tour at Defrees Ranch near Sumpter, Oregon. This unique field day will showcase how one family operation is balancing livestock production, forest stewardship, wildlife habitat, and long-term land health across a working ranch landscape.
As a Certified Century Ranch, Defrees Ranch has spent generations adapting and investing in the health of its land and livestock. Participants will hear directly from ranch managers, conservation partners, and fellow landowners while exploring real-world projects and management strategies in the field.
Tour highlights include:
- A visit to a former gold mining site and ongoing dredge tailings restoration efforts
- Grazing management strategies and a Grazewell overview with Country Natural Beef
- Irrigated pasture management
- Forest thinning projects designed to improve forest health and reduce wildfire risk
- Discussions on conservation programs and partnership opportunities
- Opportunities to connect with fellow ranchers and landowners
