WLA Celebrates Idaho’s Recognition of International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists

Western Landowners Alliance applauds the state of Idaho’s recent proclamation recognizing the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists.

WLA acknowledges rangelands are a remarkable and important ecosystem that is too often overlooked. Without these grasslands and prairies, both wildlife and human communities would be less healthy and whole. By raising food and fiber on this land, pastoralists are part of a long lineage of land stewards with deeply rooted economic, social, and cultural importance.

WLA advances policies and practices that sustain working lands, connected landscapes, and native species, and confirms the great value of “grass farmers,” as pastoralists might otherwise be called. Keeping rural communities healthy involves keeping rangeland ecosystems in states like Idaho vibrant for the years to come.

Idaho joins 102 countries and over 400 organizations, including WLA, in formally supporting the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists and the vital role these lands and people play in our world.
