SUMMARY:PRESERVED: The Story of Ted Turner's Vermejo
DESCRIPTION:GUEST SPEAKERS INCLUDE  DEB HAALAND\, BEN CLARK\, LANCE BERNAL\, ABQ TROUT UNLIMITED REP. HARRIS KLEIN\, and WESTERN LANDOWNERS ALLIANCE’S ANABELLA MILLER! \nIn an era of wildfires\, drought\, and species decline\, Vermejo is proof that ecosystem restoration is possible. And it’s a blueprint for where it can happen next. PRESERVED is more than a film—it’s a call to action. From farmers and ranchers to hikers and hunters\, we all have a role to play.  For nearly 175 years\, the Southwestern United States has seen civilizations rise and fall\, leaving behind landscapes stripped by time and industry. Northern New Mexico’s 560\,000-acre Vermejo is one such place—a land rich with history\, from dinosaurs and early Indigenous communities to homesteaders\, a conservation-minded grain baron\, and Hollywood’s glitterati seeking outdoor recreation. But modern times took their toll\, leaving it overgrazed and scarred by mining.  In 1996\, Ted Turner bought the land as part of his work to restore and protect lands across the United States. A dedicated team began to work to heal the land\, transforming it into a thriving sanctuary. Today\, Vermejo stands as a testament to what’s possible: biodiversity restored\, landscapes reborn\, and a model for global conservation.

A key to profitability\, land health\, risk reduction and the potential to have more joy in life is having livestock that truly harmonize with your land\, management style and markets. We’ll discuss how to select\, manage\, cull and breed livestock that set your operation up for long-term success. Featured will be renowned seedstock producer Kit Pharo\, who says the breed of cattle is not nearly as important as the selection criteria that comprise the breeding program. SUMMARY:Fire: Friend or Foe- Stewardship success in the fire-prone West
DESCRIPTION:Fire: Friend or Foe- Stewardship success in the fire-prone West\nAugust 14\, 2025\nNoon MDT \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFire has been been both friend and foe to humanity and ecosystems for millenia\, and which it is depends on our own context\, goals and preparedness. Join us August 14 to learn that “it’s not the blaze\, it’s the ways” that determine whether fire hurts or helps in economically viable stewardship of Western rangelands and forests. A variety of voices will touch on preparedness\, prevention\, recovery and the strategic use of fire in maintaining whole and healthy landscapes and communities\, with an open range discussion following where you too can share experiences\, ideas and questions.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Webinar Supporting Vibrant Rural Communities through Place-Based Collaboration
DESCRIPTION:Join the Montana Conflict Reduction Consortium (CRC) for a webinar on novel funding opportunities supporting communities managing wildlife-livestock conflicts and to engage with producers and practitioners developing community-led solutions to natural resource challenges.  \nThe Montana CRC\, convened by Western Landowners Alliance\, is a diverse\, landowner-led network of partners working to reduce wildlife-livestock conflicts and support working landscapes in Montana. This group is working to further community and place-based efforts that reduce wildlife conflicts and support the economic viability of rural communities in the State. \nPlace-based groups lift community needs\, while finding areas of agreement and shared purpose to meet a variety of resource challenges. Examples of these groups within Montana include the Madison Valley Ranchlands Group\, Big Hole Watershed Committee\, the Blackfoot Challenge\, and the Centennial Valley Association.  \nThese groups\, many of which are landowner and livestock producer-led\, may include all or part of a particular community and offer a way to meaningfully engage state and federal wildlife agencies\, non-profit organizations and other stakeholder groups to achieve community needs and  outcomes supporting working lands and wildlife.  \nWithin this webinar\, presenters and panelists will convey how these groups form\, focus conflicting ideas towards shared vision\, and move ideas to implementation.  \nThis will be paired with information on the Montana Community-Bear Conflict Prevention Efforts Fund fall opportunity\, of which place-based groups are eligible to apply. This funding opportunity is made possible through a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation awarded to Montana Fish\, Wildlife & Parks\, in partnership with Heart of the Rockies Initiative. Requests for proposals will be made available in mid-to late-August\, prioritizing community-led projects that work to reduce grizzly bear conflicts.  \nWhether you’re a ranch manager\, landowner\, or conservation partner\, this is your chance to learn ways to support the resilience of communities throughout Montana and develop and fund projects addressing human-bear conflicts.  \n

SUMMARY:Grassland CRP Explained -Leasing Your Land for Habitat and Conservation
DESCRIPTION:Leasing Your Land for Habitat and Conservation: Grassland CRP Explained  \nJoin the Western Landowners Alliance and national experts for a practical webinar on the Grassland Conservation Reserve Program (CRP)—a voluntary USDA program that helps landowners conserve rangelands while keeping them in production.  \nManaged by the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA)\, Grassland CRP provides annual rental payments and cost-share assistance to producers who steward grasslands—including rangeland\, pastureland\, and critical wildlife habitat—while maintaining the ability to graze and hay. Producers receive income that supports long-term stewardship\, with contracts based on NRCS-approved grazing management plans. Cost-share is available for water infrastructure\, fencing\, and other practices that improve land health.  Rental rates are calculated at 75% of local cash rents\, ensuring meaningful economic support alongside conservation goals.  \nWhether you’re a ranch manager\, landowner\, or conservation partner\, this is your chance to get expert insights on how Grassland CRP can support working lands\, wildlife habitat\, and long-term stewardship goals. \nAlthough the 2025 signup window has not yet been announced\, this webinar will prepare you for the opportunity by covering:  \n\nWho qualifies for Grassland CRP \n\n\nHow to apply and what’s required \n\n\nHow rental rates are determined \n\n\nWhat landowners can expect during and after enrollment \n\nFeatured Speakers:  \n\nPatrick Lewis\, Acting Grassland CRP Program Manager\, USDA FSA \n\n\nShaleas Harrison\, Policy Manager\, Western Landowners Alliance \n\n\nLandowner Speaker TBA
