Organization Overview

The Western Landowners Alliance (WLA) was founded in 2012 by landowners dedicated to keeping working lands in the American West whole and healthy. We advance policies and practices that sustain working lands, connected landscapes, and native species. Western Landowners Alliance is a West-wide organization, operating programs for landowners and managers across the 11 states west of the 100th meridian. We know that we have to take good care of the land if we want it to take care of us. WLA ensures the voice of landowners is represented in policy making, provides opportunities for peer-to-peer learning, and helps the public understand the value of working lands and private stewardship.

Position Overview

WLA is looking for a Communications and Marketing Intern to support our fully remote team across the West to help us connect with our constituency and the public regularly via email, social media, and our websites. In particular, we are seeking someone to support content production for the digital side of our magazine On Land, โ€œThe voice of stewardship in the American West,โ€ with a special focus on developing and writing water content for our On Water section. Responsibilities for Communications and Marketing Intern

  • Reporting to the Communications Director and supporting the Communications Associate with day to day organizational marketing and communications tasks:
    • Marketing and communications support for WLA and On Land according to communications and marketing plan
    • Create compelling creative and expository written and visual content for the web
    • Create compelling marketing email and social media content to engage constituents and convey impact
  • Support membership development and fundraising in coordination with development director:
    • Assist with organizing and marketing development and program events, including online (webinars) and in-person events
    • Draft and format marketing and member email newsletters using our email engagement tool (Salsa Engage)

Desired Qualifications

  • Study in related field (journalism, marketing, communications or a subject matter appropriate field like agriculture, wildlife biology, or natural resources management)
  • Experience with social media content creation, scheduling tools, and website content management systems (Wordpress preferred)
  • Simple, specific, and story-driven writing skills
  • Top-notch computer skills and ability to learn new programs/tools rapidly in a largely self-guided or driven fashion
  • Quick study and enthusiastic teammate
  • Experience and/or demonstrated interest in agriculture, ranching, land stewardship and conservation
  • Passionate about the landscapes of the West and the role of private land stewardship in keeping them whole and healthy
  • Desire to learn from peers and ambition to grow a career in Western agriculture, land conservation or journalism.

Details

Start Date (desired): January 23, 2023

Part-time, limited term (temporary) position up to 6 months

Available stipend of $1000/month.

Location

Remote, preferably Colorado Front Range to enable in person meetings with Comms leadership based in Denver. At a minimum you must have reliable and fast internet access daily, plus own computer and smartphone.
