SUMMARY:Adapting With Virtual Fencing: Managing for wildlife and healthy grasslands in the Northern Great Plains part 1
DESCRIPTION:Virtual fencing is still a new and developing technology\, but for many ranchers\, it has transformed how they raise livestock while protecting and rejuvenating native grasslands and wildlife that rely on intact and healthy working lands. \nJoin Quivira Coalition and World Wildlife Fund for a two-part webinar series on virtual fencing! \nMay 12: Join Andrew Jakes\, a senior research scientist with the Wyoming Migration Initiative and Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit\, and rancher Leo Barthelmess to learn about the connections between sustainable wildlife habitats and virtual fencing ranch management. \nMay 19: Interested in virtual fencing but don’t know which technology makes the most sense for your operation? Ask questions and hear from a panel of ranchers on different technologies available and what might be a best fit for you.* \n*Quivira Coalition and the Sustainable Ranching Initiative are not endorsing any specific technology. This is an educational opportunity to learn what technologies are available to consumers. \nYou’ll learn about how virtual fencing has been a major innovation for both conservation and flexible livestock management in the Northern Great Plains\, and leave with practical\, replicable action items for the lands you steward as a grazier.

SUMMARY:Soil Solutions to Water Scarcity
DESCRIPTION:The fifth webinar of WLA’s 2025 Water and Working Lands Stewardship Series will focus on the intersection of soil health\, drought resiliency and water scarcity. How – and how much – does soil biology affect the productivity of your land through unpredictable cycles of drought and flood? What are practical\, on-the-ground approaches to building soil health and increasing drought resiliency in arid environments? This panel discussion will explore the impacts of soil health on water retention and drought adaptation. Producers will share lessons learned about improving soil health on western rangelands\, real barriers to increasing soil health\, and specific adaptive management tools such as managed grazing\, no-till farming and water-sparing crops and practices.   \nLong-time producers and soil health experts share lessons learned – what worked\, and what didn’t  – and discuss the outcomes of improved soil health on their land\, water uses\, economics and quality of life. Stay for the second hour for “open range sessions” networking among all meeting participants: ask your questions\, share your experiences\, and connect with landowners from across the West about practical\, homegrown\, proven solutions to water scarcity.  \nJoin us to hear from successful ranchers and scientists about practical strategies to improve soil health and what that means for drought resilience\, profitability\, and the health of working lands and watersheds. Then stay to network with producers and partners from across the West to share your experiences\, ask your questions and get fresh ideas for soil solutions to water scarcity. \nREGISTER HERE
