SUMMARY:North Fork California Meat Summit
DESCRIPTION:The North Fork California Meat Summit\, which UC Cooperative Extension\, Siskiyou County is co-hosting with the Siskiyou Economic Development Council. The Summit will bring together all sectors of the regional meat supply chain—including ranchers\, processors\, distributors\, and buyers—to share knowledge and build connections.\n\n\nThe North Fork Summit is part of a multi-state effort that began in North Carolina several years ago and is supported by the National Meat Summits Steering Committee. These educational summits encourage networking and collaboration along the meat supply chain\, thus supporting new market opportunities\, fostering innovation\, and enhancing understanding about the realities of bringing meat from farm to fork. This will be the first time a Summit has been hosted in California\, and we’re excited to bring the concept to our region in a smaller-scale format and with a particular focus on ranchers and the realities of doing business here.\n\n\nWe aimed to develop an agenda that would appeal to a broad range of ranchers\, regardless of their level of experience or the direct sales model they are interested in. Program highlights:\n– Ranch and processing facility tours\n– Business planning session co-led by Dan Macon\, UCCE Livestock and Natural Resources Advisor\, and Dr. Kasey DeAtley\, Professor of Animal & Range Sciences\, CSU Chico College of Ag\n– Tradeshow featuring local DTC ranchers and resources for the ranching community\n– Networking cocktail hour\n– On-ranch dinner featuring Siskiyou producers\n– Panel discussion exploring rancher-led co-ops: featuring Cody Hopkins\, Grass Roots Farmers’ Cooperative\, and Morgan Doran\, Livestock and Natural Resources Advisor\n\n\nRegistration is $150 and includes tours\, transportation\, educational sessions\, networking opportunities and meals. Thanks to the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program and the California Cattle Council\, 20 sponsored registrations are available for qualifying ranchers (see registration page for details)! Dinner-only tickets\, which include access to the tradeshow\, networking hour\, and panel discussion\, are also available.

SUMMARY:Ranch Managers Guild - Balancing Wildlife Conservation & Ranch Management
DESCRIPTION:Wildlife conservation can bring both opportunities and challenges for working lands\, requiring ranch managers to navigate competing priorities while maintaining productive operations. This manager-led discussion will explore real-world experiences with threatened and endangered species\, Greater Sage-grouse conservation and mitigation banks\, and managing beavers in working meadows and irrigation systems.  \n\nHow do you balance wildlife habitat goals with agricultural production and operational needs? \n\n\nHave you developed partnerships with conservation organizations\, agencies\, or neighboring landowners to support wildlife? \n\n\nHow do you manage wildlife species that provide important ecological benefits but also create challenges for ranch operations\, such as beavers affecting irrigation infrastructure? \n\nParticipation is reserved for active members of the Ranch Managers Guild. SUMMARY:EPLUS & Rural Economies: The Economics of Elk Conservation on Working Lands
DESCRIPTION:How does elk management on private lands affect the economic health of working ranches and rural communities? \nJoin Western Landowners Alliance for the third installment of our EPLUS webinar series exploring the relationship between New Mexico’s Elk Private Land Use System (EPLUS)\, private land stewardship\, and rural economies. This webinar will examine the economic dimensions of EPLUS\, including the role of landowner participation\, hunting opportunities\, and wildlife-related revenue in supporting working lands and local businesses. \nFeaturing Anabella Miller (Western Landowners Alliance New Mexico Resource Coordinator)\, Kerrie Cox Romero (Executive Director of New Mexico Council of Outfitters and Guides)\, and Don Martinez (7th generation farmer & rancher in Rio Arriba County\, NM)\, the conversation will explore how EPLUS intersects with the costs and opportunities of managing elk on private lands and what that means for landowners and the communities connected to them.

SUMMARY:Ranching for Generations Succession Planning Intensive Course
DESCRIPTION:CCALT is pleased to offer Colorado agricultural landowners/producers an opportunity to attend a Ranching for Generations Succession Planning Intensive delivered by Dallas Mount of Ranching for Profit. This program is specifically designed for landowning families navigating generational transition and long-term stewardship. Tuition is 100% reimbursable upon completion of the course. This is a low-cost opportunity to quickly and efficiently plan out the future of your operation and preserve your legacy. \nThe Intensive Course will be held at the Hyatt Place Belmar within walking distance of CCALT headquarters in Lakewood starting at noon on Tuesday December 8th and concluding at noon on Friday December 11th. \nA few highlights of the program: \nThe curriculum focuses on the intersection of family\, ownership\, and management\, to help families align around long-term goals and legacy. Families work through topics such as succession timelines\, communication strategies\, family employment policies\, and organizational planning for the ranch. Participants leave with a succession and estate planning action plan tailored to their vision and their operation. \nCost and participation details: \n\nTuition is $1\,500 for the first person and $500 for each additional person involved in the succession. The retail price for this intensive is $3\,000 per person.\n\n\nFamilies pay tuition upfront to secure their spot\, but the full amount is reimbursed after attendance and submission of the action plan.\n\n\nTravel and lodging are separate\, and we are working on securing funding to possibly be able to provide reimbursement for that as well. We have a block of rooms available for $139/night.\n\n\nWe prefer that you come with successor(s) identified\, but it’s not required. The successor can be family or non-family\, but it’s critical that all decisionmakers from the current and next generation (if applicable) attend so that everyone can participate in the planning process together.\n\n\nBelow is the tentative agenda and program overview so you can take a closer look at what the week will involve.\n\nBecause space is limited and we expect these seats to be filled very quickly\, we ask that you please complete the application or reach out to me with any questions as soon as possible. \nThis is an incredible opportunity to accomplish in a few days what otherwise might take years to complete. We at CCALT are truly excited to be able to offer this and hope you’ll be able to jump on this opportunity. \n
