SUMMARY:2026 Fall Adaptive Grazing Workshop by the Southwest Montana Sagebrush Partnership
DESCRIPTION:SAVE THE DATE for the Fall Adaptive Grazing Workshop facilitated by the Southwest Montana Sagebrush Partnership.\n\nThe workshop will be held on October 14 & 15 in Dillon\, MT (field trip west of Twin Bridges\, MT).\n\nOctober 14 will be held at the University of Montana Western’s Lewis and Clark Room and will feature a line-up of great presenters including Dr. Clayton Marlow – Flexible Riparian Grazing Management\, Cooper Hibbard of Sieben Ranch – sharing his unique story into Adaptive Livestock Grazing\, a Rancher round table discussion including several of the ranchers piloting new tools and ideas in the Flexible Grazing Project and two additional impactful speakers that we are currently in communication with.  The venue for the presentations on October 14 will be the University of Montana-Western Lewis and Clark Room.\n\nOctober 15 will include a field trip to a BLM allotment west of Twin Bridges\, MT to show the change over time and discuss public land grazing and flexibility.  Speakers will include Dr. Jeff Mosley\, MSU\, Jaime Wood\, manager of Hamilton Ranch\, Dusty Crowe and Kelly Savage\, Assistant Field Manager and Rangeland Management Specialist for the BLM’s Dillon Field office.  Lunch will be provided both days.

SUMMARY:Fall Sustainable Ranching Workshop and Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:2026 Fall Sustainable Ranching Workshop & Field Trip: Building Resilience\nJoin the Southwest Montana Sagebrush Partnership for the 2026 Fall Sustainable Ranching Workshop & Field Trip on October 14–15\, 2026\, focused on the theme “Building Resilience.” \nThe free two-day event will explore practical approaches to improving soil health\, riparian health\, and rangeland health\, productivity\, and resilience. Presentations on October 14 will be held at the University of Montana Western in Dillon\, followed by a field trip on October 15 to a large BLM allotment west of Twin Bridges. \nThe workshop will feature presentations on the connections between human health and soil health\, strategies for improving land health and productivity\, and new tools and technologies for implementing adaptive grazing systems. Ranchers participating in the Adaptive Grazing Project will also share their experiences putting adaptive grazing practices into action in Southwest Montana. \nOn the evening of October 14\, attendees can also join the Good Food Network for a screening of Groundswell at the historic Depot Theatre. \nRegistration is free\, but required so organizers can plan for seating and lunch. SUMMARY:North Fork California Meat Summit
DESCRIPTION:The North Fork California Meat Summit\, which UC Cooperative Extension\, Siskiyou County is co-hosting with the Siskiyou Economic Development Council. The Summit will bring together all sectors of the regional meat supply chain—including ranchers\, processors\, distributors\, and buyers—to share knowledge and build connections.\n\n\nThe North Fork Summit is part of a multi-state effort that began in North Carolina several years ago and is supported by the National Meat Summits Steering Committee. These educational summits encourage networking and collaboration along the meat supply chain\, thus supporting new market opportunities\, fostering innovation\, and enhancing understanding about the realities of bringing meat from farm to fork. This will be the first time a Summit has been hosted in California\, and we’re excited to bring the concept to our region in a smaller-scale format and with a particular focus on ranchers and the realities of doing business here.\n\n\nWe aimed to develop an agenda that would appeal to a broad range of ranchers\, regardless of their level of experience or the direct sales model they are interested in. Program highlights:\n– Ranch and processing facility tours\n– Business planning session co-led by Dan Macon\, UCCE Livestock and Natural Resources Advisor\, and Dr. Kasey DeAtley\, Professor of Animal & Range Sciences\, CSU Chico College of Ag\n– Tradeshow featuring local DTC ranchers and resources for the ranching community\n– Networking cocktail hour\n– On-ranch dinner featuring Siskiyou producers\n– Panel discussion exploring rancher-led co-ops: featuring Cody Hopkins\, Grass Roots Farmers’ Cooperative\, and Morgan Doran\, Livestock and Natural Resources Advisor\n\n\nRegistration is $150 and includes tours\, transportation\, educational sessions\, networking opportunities and meals. Thanks to the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program and the California Cattle Council\, 20 sponsored registrations are available for qualifying ranchers (see registration page for details)! Dinner-only tickets\, which include access to the tradeshow\, networking hour\, and panel discussion\, are also available.

Over the course of the workshop\, you’ll progress from saw basics to practical field work that connects technical skill with stewardship and fire resilience. \nDay 1 focuses on safety\, equipment setup\, and foundational cutting techniques.
