WATER & WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT ON WORKING LANDS: FIELD DAY AT SAND RANCH

MAY 16 @ 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM

JOIN US FOR OUR SECOND WATER & WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT ON WORKING LANDS FIELD DAY!

We’ll meet at Sand Ranch on May 16 to learn from Ranch Managers and Landowners Bret Riley and many more. They’ll share their stewardship experiences in regards to management, observations, goals, vision and prairie chickens. Additionally, there will be a monitoring demonstration and a number of agencies will be tabling and available for your questions. Learn more about Sand Ranch.

This is the second part in a four part series on Water & Wildlife Management on Working Lands. You can learn about the other field days and register for them here.

AGENDA

  • 9:00am       Guided ranch tour with Bret, highlighting grazing strategies, restoration, and management for drought and prairie chicken habitat
  • 11:30am      Lunch
  • 12:30pm     Circle up with Landowners (Kyle Dillard, Bryce Peterson, Clyde Harrison, etc) – Informal “panel discussion” on their stewardship experiences, management,       observations, goals and vision.
  • 2:00pm        Break
  • 2:15pm        Monitoring discussion and demos, including Bureau of Land Management demo on monitoring for rangeland health and wildlife habitat
  • 3:00-4:00     Agency tables – mingle and chat with various agency staff about their programs (Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), State Lands office, NM Dept of Game & Fish, and Fish and Wildlife Service)

About the series:

Join us this spring and summer for a series of field days all about Water & Wildlife Management on Working Lands! These field days will take place throughout New Mexico in April, May, June and July. Topics will include erosion control, grazing, bird habitat, stock tank construction, windmills, and so much more. Each field day focuses on management practices that are relevant to that region and that particular ranch, and which support the local wildlife and watershed. You won’t want to miss this special series!

This series is a collaboration between the Quivira Coalition, Bird Conservancy of the RockiesWestern Landowners Alliance, and the NM State Land Office.

Each field day requires a separate registration. Camping is available for some of the field days. And food is available at all of them.
